Ibragimbekov not serious opponent of Azerbaijani authorities
The National Council of Democratic Forces party and its candidate Rustam Ibragimbekov will not become serious opponents of the incumbent authorities in the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan, expert Sargis Asatrian told journalists today.
In his words, the majority of the population views the party as a pseudo-opposition force established by Ilham Aliyev. “Besides, rumors are spread that Ibragimbekov is a pro-Armenian political figure and he has friends among Armenians,” Asatrian noted.
He expressed an opinion that if the situation in Azerbaijan gets out of Aliyev’s control, he may plunge into adventure and unleash local military operations against Nagorno Karabakh.
Asatrian said the West doesn’t care who will become the next president of Azerbaijan, it only takes interest in the country’s oil and gas.
