Deputy minister to meet with protesting farmers

A group of farmers held a protest in Ararat province today. They blocked a motorway because some “owners of delivery trucks are trying to purchase our apricots at very low prices”.

Rumors are circulating that among the protesters were residents of Aygepat, Aygezard, Kaghtsrashen and Narek villages.
However, Kaghtsrashen village administrator Valerik Gyulamirian told Aysor.am that residents of their village didn’t stage any action, they have no complaints and the village road is open.

Aygepat village administrator Seryozha Petrosian told Aysor.am that Aygepat residents did not hold any protest either, but deputy governors met with farmers and promised to solve their problems.

“Deputy governors are visiting villages. Spayka Company said unless an agreement is reached, the company will purchase apricots at 5,000 AMD,” he said, noting that farmers protest rightly if attempts are made to purchase apricots at a low price.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Robert Makarian told the correspondent of Aysor.am that he together with Spayka’s representative will go to Ararat marz. He will give more information after the meeting with local farmers.
