Serzh Sargsyan: Poland is Armenia’s reliable partner

On behalf of Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, an official dinner was given in honor of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who is on an official visit to Poland, and the delegation headed by him, according to the Armenian president’s press service.

In his speech, Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the warm reception, then he touched upon the centuries-old history of the Armenian-Polish friendship based on close ties, the Armenian community in Poland, interstate relations, and the prospects for development of Armenian-Polish relations.

“About two years ago, Mr. Komorowski, you paid an official visit to Armenia, which resulted not only in happy memories, but also in significant success. That success was later consolidated thanks to the constant contacts of the leaders of Armenia and Poland, government and regional agencies,” the Armenian president said.

“This is not my first visit to Poland and, hopefully, not the last one. I always feel at home here and the hospitality of the Poles is not the only reason. I think that mutual sympathy unites our nations. Such temperament traits as sociability, self-criticism, an entrepreneurial spirit, the desire to adapt to another environment and make achievements unite us,” S. Sargsyan noted.

He stressed that the interstate relations built on the close historical ties are now determined by a political agenda which has a high level and a substantive depth. Besides, mutual visits at the high level have become frequent recently.

“Nevertheless, along with an active political dialog and cooperation in many directions, there is still untapped potential in the economic sphere. I hope that our consistent efforts to increase the trade turnover and expand Poland’s economic presence in Armenia, as well as business forums and meetings of the intergovernmental commissions regularly held in Armenia and Poland will give results,” the Armenian president stated.

In his words, Poland is Armenia’s reliable partner in the international arena. Being the initiator of the EU Eastern Partnership project, Poland supports Armenia’s efforts to establish closer ties with Europe.

“The attitude of Poland and the Polish people towards Armenia became evident once again when in 2005 your parliament recognized the Armenian Genocide. It confirmed the high level of moral consciousness of Polish society in terms of condemnation of such crimes against humanity and their prevention in the future. The people and authorities of Armenia appreciate that step,” S. Sargsyan stated.

“There have been many famous Polish figures of Armenian descent, including great artists and composers, film directors and actors, journalists and even political figures. I would not like to enumerate some of them so as not to offend the others. I am proud of all the Armenians who contributed and continue to contribute to the prosperity of your country. I am proud of the Armenian-Polish friendship and more than confident of its bright future,” the Armenian president said in conclusion.
