Joint air forces to be set up within framework of CSTO

Joint air forces will be set up within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council Arthur Baghdasarian said. “Operating schedule has been planned. The possibility of upgrading the Gyumri air base together with Helicopters of Russia Company is under discussion. Armenia’s air force system will be improved and modernized,” Baghdasarian stated.

CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said for his part that CSTO troops are being created. Special-purpose troops and joint air forces will cover special operations and do other tasks.

In his words, the situation in the CSTO’s responsibility zone is calm, there is no danger of conflicts.

“There are a number of problems such as threats of terrorism, infiltration of illegal formations from Afghanistan, recurrence of conflicts in the Caucasus, but on the whole, the situation is calm,” Bordyuzha noted.

Nikolai Bordyuzha and Arthur Baghdasarian signed a joint protocol consisting of 20 clauses related to the deepening of cooperation, military technical cooperation, cooperation on cyber security, and the establishment of new military-industrial enterprises.
