S. Kocharian: Aliyev’s statements are addressed to domestic audience

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s statements about the readiness to “liberate” Nagorno Karabakh are addressed to the domestic audience, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharian said.

“Those who are ready to take such steps in reality would not make statements about it every day. These words are directed at the domestic user,” Shavarsh Kocharian told journalists.

Ilham Aliyev said earlier the Azerbaijani army must be ready for an operation on liberation of the “occupied Azerbaijani lands”.

According to S. Kocharian, the negotiations with Azerbaijan pursue two goals: achievement of an agreement and non-resumption of hostilities.

“An agreement has not been reached because of Azerbaijan’s position. Baku is faced with the choice: either to encourage the international recognition of Nagorno Karabakh by adhering to a stubborn policy, or to come to its senses,” Shavarsh Kocharian noted.
