Ohanian: We should show concern for families of missing in action

On the occasion of Day of Soldiers who Died for Homeland and Missing in Action, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian accompanied by high-ranking officers visited the Yerablur Military Cemetery today. They laid a wreath and flowers at the memorial to the soldiers killed in the Karabakh war and those missing.

During a talk with reporters, S. Ohanian said the search for the Karabakh war soldiers missing in action is continuing, but the results are unsatisfactory due to Azerbaijan’s destructive policy.

“We are trying to establish contact with Azerbaijan through international structures. The absence of direct contacts prevents us from receiving full information,” the defense minister said.

According to him, a government commission deals with issues of the missing in action. It holds sittings twice a year to summarize the collected information.

“Many of our friends were killed, some are missing. Their families are still waiting for them. We should know what happened to them, but it is also important to show concern for the families of azatamartiks (freedom fighters) missing in action”, Ohanian noted.

We would remind you that 950 people, including 400 servicemen and citizen soldiers and 550 civilian residents of Martakert region, are considered as missing in action during the Artsakh war.
