‘Ombudswoman Grigoriu’s statement is her personal opinion’

An unpleasant incident happened in Armenia’s National Assembly yesterday, member of the Constitutional Court of Moldova, former deputy of the Moldovan parliament Prof. Victor Popan said at a meeting with reporters today.

“Yesterday’s statement made by Moldovan Ombudswoman in the Armenian parliament to the effect that Armenia is an “aggressor country” was a very unpleasant incident and put our country in an awkward position, “he said.

Victor Popan stressed that the statement voiced yesterday was the ombudswoman’s personal opinion and does not reflect the opinion of Moldovan parliament or any other structure.

“I don’t know who vested her with such authority and based on what principle. In all likelihood, it is her personal opinion. I spoke to the Moldovan parliament speaker Marian Lupu yesterday and he expressed his regret over what had happened. An inquiry will be conducted to reveal the circumstances,” he noted.

In his words, on his arrival in Moldova, discussions will be held to find out the reason for such behavior of the ombudswoman.
We would remind you that during the conference “European Standards of the Rule of Law and Limits of Authorities’ Discretion in the Council of Europe Member States” held in Yerevan on July 4, Moldovan Ombudswoman Aurelia Grigoriu made a pro-Azerbaijani report “Observance of Human Right in Frozen Conflict Zones”, in which she called Armenia an “aggressor country”.
