Iskandarian: Russia is indispensable to Armenia

“Russia is indispensable to Armenia from the viewpoint of guaranteeing its security. Apart from Russia, there is no such source of arms for Armenia, “the Director of Caucasus Institute, political scientist Alexander Iskandarian told journalists today.

In his words, if Armenia disappeared from the map, Russia would have to abandon the southern part because of not being able to replace Armenia with Azerbaijan and Georgia.

According to Iskandarian, an inadequate approach towards the negotiations on the Customs Union and the Association Agreement is shown in Armenia.

“The negotiations on the Association Agreement are underway, and the agreement will probably be initialed at the Eastern Partnership’s summit, but it would not be the end of the process. It will take years to implement the provisions stipulated there,” the political scientist noted.

He also stressed that no one has offered Armenia to join the Customs Union.
