‘There will be no changes in Karabakh process after Vilnius summit’

“Armenia’s cooperation with the outside world is quite difficult because of closed communications. The Abkhazian railway does not operate, while the work of the Upper Lars checkpoint causes problems,” Director of Caucasus Institute, political scientist Alexander Iskandarian told reporters today, when discussing the possibility of the Armenian-Turkish border’s opening following the Vilnius summit.

In his words, the Armenian economy is facing problems because of the fact that the Armenian-Turkish border is closed.

“I think Europe will not pressurize Turkey into opening the Armenian-Turkish border. Europe is unable to do it, only the U.S. has such an opportunity,” Iskandarian said.

Speaking about the current stage of the Karabakh negotiating process, Iskandarian expressed an opinion that the status quo will be maintained and no significant changes will occur.
