‘We are aware that increase by even one dram will affect population’

Fares of minibuses and buses in Yerevan will increase to 150 drams starting from July 20, Head of the Yerevan Municipality’s Transport Department Henrik Navasardian said at the meeting with reporters today.

Speaking about the formation of the new bus fare and the reasons of its increase, advisor to Yerevan mayor Albert Gevorgian noted that the city’s public transport companies recently submitted bids, proposing an increase in transport fares by 170-200 AMD. Yet, following discussions and the calculations presented by the tender commission, the fare was set at 150 AMD.

Henrik Navasardian said for his part the increase in public transport fares will allow companies to upgrade vehicles and improve the quality of service.

“We are aware that an increase by even one dram will affect the population, but there is no alternative,” he said.
