'If Foreign Ministry joined our letter, response would be different'

More than 20 Armenian NGOs have sent the third letter to the UN Secretary-General over the transfer of the European Regional Center of the UNDP from Bratislava to Istanbul, Chairwoman of ‘For Sustainable Hunan Development’ NGO Karine Danielian said at a meeting with reporters today.

In her words, the Turkish authorities spent billions on the transfer and although the center will be renamed technical assistance center, it functions will be the same.

“It is no accident that Turkey is spending such large sums. It seeks to become a global political center and increase its influence on world politics in this way,” she noted.

Karine Danielian said that it is planned to open the center in January, and even though the Armenian authorities made a verbal statement in this connection, saying that they will not work with Istanbul, the state should pay more attention to the problem.

“If Armenian Foreign Ministry had joined our letter, we are convinced that the response would have been different, with the problem being discussed by diplomatic circles,” she said.
