S. Safarian: Result can be achieved in case of public pressure

The excuses of Yerevan Municipality concerning the increase in pubic transport fares are beyond the range of logic, the member of Hello Yerevan bloc of parties Stepan Safarian said at a meeting with reporters today.

According to him, Hello Yerevan bloc plans to apply to court in order to dispute the substantiation presented. Safarian expressed hope that a special sitting of the Yerevan Council of Elders will be called tomorrow to discuss the fare increase.

Commenting on the civil actions held in various parts of the city, Safarian noted that a positive solution of the issue is possible in case of public pressure and active coverage of the issue in the mass media.

“It is incredible that in this situation the mayor has managed to hide behind the municipality’s walls and not meet citizens, avoiding responsibility. The impression is that Yerevan has no mayor. I think either the leadership of his party or the owners of bus lines urged him to make a decision about the increase of transport fares,” Safarian said.
