Bakhshian sends inquiry to mayor about fare commission

Anahit Bakhshian, the head of ‘Hello Yerevan’ faction of Yerevan Council of Elders, has sent an inquiry to Yerevan mayor Taron Margarian. The inquiry is about the status and authority of the commission being set up for discussion of the decision on revision of public transport fares, says a statement issued by the faction of Hello Yerevan bloc of parties.

Let us remind you that during the working consultation at Yerevan Municipality yesterday, Taron Margarian instructed the advisor on transport Albert Gevorgian to set up a commission within a week, informing beforehand members of the Council of Elders, civil activists and all interested members of society about it. Margarian also gave instructions to take steps on involvement of representatives of all interested parties in work of the commission to be set up for discussion of the decision on the change of fares.

In this connection, Ms. Bakhshian asked Yerevan mayor to specify:

1. What status and authority will the commission have?
2. What tasks will be assigned to the commission?
3. Will the commission be competent to set the scope of tasks on its own or will the tasks be assigned by the mayor?
4. What status will the commission’s conclusions have?
5. How much authority will the commission have in terms of taking decisions on establishment or approval of transport fares if Yerevan Council of Elders – the supreme body of local government – is deprived of such authority?
