Safarian: Powers of Council of Elders ignored

“After the illegal decision of Yerevan mayor, everyone asks the question: Where is the Council of Elders of the Yerevan Municipality? The point is that powers of the Council of Elders are ignored because all agreements signed with the private sector are controlled only by the Yerevan mayor,” said Stepan Safarian, member of Hello Yerevan faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders.

“Systemic changes are necessary so that the agreements signed will be a subject of discussion of the Council of Elders,” he noted.

He added that in addition to that, the Council of Elders cannot participate in decision making related to allocation of land plots. “I think these issues should become a topic of discussions to be held by the Council in September,” Safarian stated.
