Sociologist: Why EU doesn’t want to triple investments in Armenia?

If the European Union wants Armenia to become its partner, then why doesn’t it triple its investments and allow Armenian goods to cross the EU customs zone? Sociologist Aharon Adibekian made that statement today when discussing Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union.

Adibekian told reporters that Russian investments in Armenia make up about 34% and direct investments – 45.5%, whereas the total amount of investments by 12 EU countries makes up 20% and their direct investments – 25%.

“The EU hints: “Join us and we will try to help you”, but Russia does not do it,” Adibekian said. According to him, Russia has always been Armenia’s ally and the opinion of the Armenian community has always been taken into account in that country.
