Baghdasarian: Entry into CU doesn’t contradict Association Agreement

A political decision was taken, it stems from the interests and priorities of Armenia’s national security. Secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia Arthur Baghdasarian made that statement at a meeting with reporters today, when speaking about Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union.

In his words, the entry into the Customs Union doesn’t contradict the initialing of the Association Agreement with the EU as much work has been done with the European Union over the past three years.

‘One of the advantages of the declaration signed in Moscow is that Russia will participate as actively as possible in the diversification and development of the Armenian economy,” Baghdasarian said.

According to him, regardless of everything, Armenia must be guided by its national interests. As regards security, in this context Russia plays an important role, Baghdasarian noted.

Discussing the Association Agreement with the EU, Arthur Baghdasarian said Armenian has approached the agreement’s initialing. “We attach importance to cooperation with our European partners and we will continue that cooperation,” Arthur Baghdasarian said in conclusion.
