Documents on Armenia’s entry into Customs Union to be ready by May

The documents on Armenia’s entry into the Customs Union will be ready by May 2014 when it is planned to sign an agreement on the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Igor Shuvalov was quoted as saying on Monday by RIA Novosti.

“Experts say that working out simultaneously the draft agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union, we can reach an agreement wit the candidates joining the Customs Union that the main provisions of that first level of integration can be reconciled by May of next year,” Shuvalov said during the consultation of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev with deputy prime ministers.

He reminded those present that besides Armenia, Kyrgyzstan has submitted an entry application. “We are carrying out the necessary work so as to prepare an agreement on the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union by May of next year, and we are taking a series of measures so that the Union could start operating from January 1, 2015,” Shuvalov added.

We would remind you that at the September 3 meeting in Moscow, Presidents of Armenia and Russia, Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, discussed the state and prospects of bilateral allied partnership and issues of foreign-policy interaction. The heads of the two states confirmed the intention of Yerevan and Moscow to further develop economic integration processes in the Eurasian space.

In accordance with a joint statement, President Sargsyan stated about Armenia’s Decision to join the Customs Union and take the necessary practical steps for that purpose and later to take part in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. President Putin supported the decision of the Republic of Armenia and expressed the Russian side’s willingness to assist with that process in every possible way.
