Artyom Asatrian meets Karabakh war veterans

Labor and Social Affairs Minister Artyom Asatrian met today with a group Karabakh war veterans who have for several months staged protests in Yerevan’s Liberty Square, demanding solution of their social problems, the press service of Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs reported.

According to Minister Asatrian, the meeting agenda was formed based on the proposals of veterans. “Taking into account the problems you have raised as well as lack of information about social protection, the ministry’s officials will inform you about your rights, the work done, and further actions. They will also answer all your questions,” the minister said.

Experts of the ministry noted that Karabakh war veterans will have certain privileges concerning their inclusion in the employment program, return of their bank deposits, and provision of free medical services in healthcare institutions as part of the ‘state order’ program. Besides, it is planned to increase pensions and pecuniary aid, specify the order of measures envisaged by the individual program of rehabilitation of disabled veterans of the Karabakh war, etc.

The minister stressed the necessity to start general registration of veterans for efficient implementation of the planned changes. He announced that an interdepartmental commission is being set up to deal with problems related to general registration.

“As far as we can see, you are interested in solution of our problems. This is correct and humane, but we ask you to show consistency in this matter,” Karabakh war veteran Volodya Avetisian said at the conclusion of the meeting.
