Campaign funds set up by two of three candidates in electoral district 38

Issues related to the upcoming by-election to the National Assembly under the majority electoral system in electoral district # 38 in Syunik province were discussed at the special sitting of Armenia’s Central Election Commission today.

The press service of CEC said that in particular, the payments made to the campaign funds of candidates and the certificate concerning checks of the first declarations about use of those funds were discussed.

Campaign funds were set up by two of the three candidates and they have duly presented the required declarations about payments to their campaign funds and the use of their resources.

Election campaign started on September 1 and will last until September 27. The by-election will be held on September 29.
Let us remind you that the seat of NA deputy in electoral district # 38 became vacant after the June 1 tragic incident outside the house of the then governor of Syunik province Suren Khachatrian.

At the June 6 session the Armenian government took a decision to relieve Suren Khachatrian of his post as governor, and the decision was approved by President Serzh Sargsyan on the same day. At the July 10 session the government took a decision to appoint Vahe Hakobian, who was the NA deputy elected in electoral district #38 under the majority system, as governor of Syunik province.
