'There is nothing sensational about decision to join Customs Union'

“There is nothing sensational about Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union and this idea was also expressed a few days ago,” the deputy chairman of Republican Party of Armenia Galust Sahakian said at a meeting with reporters today. In his words, those in Europe knew perfectly well that Armenia stands for the ‘and-and’ policy.

Discussing the issue that the Armenian public was not informed about the process of joining the Customs Union, G. Sahakian noted that Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian acted within the scope of his powers and initialing an agreement does not mean its signing.

“I don’t think Edward Nalbandian may take steps not stemming from our state interests,” Sahakian said.

At the same time he reminded those present that as a result of democratic principles developed together with Europe, Armenia has achieved positive results in that field. In his words, now the matter concerns the country’s economy.

“We have much work to do with Europe. Both sides – Armenia and the European Union are interested in cooperation,” G. Sahakian stated.
