Fule: Armenian authorities assured me that there was no pressure
The initiators of the Eurasian Union must respect sovereign rights of our partners. Russia’ threats concerning the signing of the Association Agreement are unacceptable to the EU, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said at a press conference in Yerevan today following the informal meeting of Eastern Partnership foreign ministers. He stressed that the EU will provide support and assistance to those who will be subjected to such pressure.
In response to a journalist’s remark that Fule has repeatedly said pressure was exerted on Armenia, due to which a decision was taken to join the Customs Union, and whether the refusal to initial the Association Agreement means in that context that the side which put pressure has won, D. Fule said that he was assured that no pressure had been exerted on Armenia.
“Who am I to question that?” he said.
At the same time, the EU offiical noted that such complaints were heard in the European Parliament.
He added: Why is an impression being created that we don’t want to have good relations with Russia? We want good relations and repeatedly presented such proposals. We seek to form a cooperation zone, from Lisbon to Vladivostok.
