Nagorno Karabakh expects new influx of refugees from Syria

Authorities of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic expect a new influx of refugees from Syria. They plan to house refugees not in Kashatagh region as previously, but in old villages. Prime Minister of the NKR Ara Harutyunian made that announcement yesterday at a meeting with a group of benefactors of Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s USA West Coast affiliate.

According to Karabakh-open.info, there was already such an idea in the past, but the Armenians arriving from Syria were mainly from Gamishli where they were successfully engaged in farming.

In the prime minister’s opinion, settling Syrian Armenians in other regions will be less costly as there are many empty houses in villages. Besides, no problems related to jobs and social conditions will arise and the process of integration with the local population will proceed easier.
