Armenian president visits Ararat and Vayots Dzor provinces

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan traveled to Ararat province where he visited the newly-built kindergarten in Ayntap community. He familiarized himself with the conditions of the institution envisaged for 144 children and the construction work done. There was no kindergarten in the largest community of Ararat province with a population of 8,700 so Ayntap kids had to attend kindergartens in Noragavit district of Yerevan or in the city of Masis. On the instructions of President Serzh Sargsyan, construction of the kindergarten began in 2011 and finished this year. The area is now being equipped with modern amenities, the presidential press service said.

S. Sargsyan then went to the recently renovated house of culture in the city of Vedi. He attended the opening ceremony of the culture house. Built in 1937-38, the house of culture stopped functioning in 1988 due to its bad state of repair. On the instructions of President Sargsyan, the house of culture underwent major repairs and the two-story building currently has a comfortable hall with 280 seats where members of various hobby groups can gather. The Armenian president visited an exhibition of works by Vedi painters on display in the house of culture.

Then Serzh Sargsyan traveled to Vayots Dzor province to familiarize himself with the results of the excavations carried out in Areni 1 cave by a joint expedition of scholars, professors and students of Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences, Yerevan State University, Cork University (Ireland), and Cotsen Institute for Archeology at UCLA, U.S. Experts said that the results of excavations in Areni 1 cave (located in the valley of the Arpa River) are of importance in terms of research and assessment of the initial period of formation of civilizations in Western Asia and the Armenian Highland.
