Saribekian: There is no alteranative to negotiations
“Azerbaijan should understand that a war will lead to destruction and casualties and in order to receive evidence of that, one should not plunge into adventure,” the parliamentary deputy, veteran of the Karabakh war Karen Saribekian told the correspondent of Aysor.am, when speaking about the Armenian president’s speech in the PACE.
In his speech, Serzh Sargsyan touched upon the possibility of war resumption,” We always make sobering calls and confidently say that the mad propaganda of xenophobia, endless threats to use force, and the arms race will lead to no good. A safe future of the peoples in the region can be built only by means of cooperation and peace. This is an axiom that needs no proof”.
In the words of Saribekian, Azerbaijan should understand that the military stage ended long ago, and it is time to solve the current problems through negotiations.
‘When we speak about peace, it does not mean that we are afraid of fighting or we think that we may be defeated. We are ready to do anything for our homeland. God forbid that Azerbaijan should try to create problems again. The fact that Azerbaijan ‘shouts’ about war resumption every day does not mean that it is strong and can frighten us. If necessary we will show our capabilities on the battlefield – something which we did in the early 1990s”, Saribekian stated.
In his words, instead of making arrogant statements, Baku should display courage and solve its problems at the negotiating table. “There is no other path, war will only aggravate the problems,” Saribekian said.
