‘Balayan conceived idea of letter during Sargsyan-Putin meeting’
The leader of the Marxist Party of Armenia David Hakobian gave a press conference, at which he discussed Zori Balayan’s letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to D. Hakobian, he examined the same idea in his letter sent to then-Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on May 9, 2011. In Hakobian’s words, in his letter Zori Balayan leaves Karabakh’s status as part of the Russian Federation to Moscow’s discretion, whereas Hakobian himself believes that Karabakh should be given the status of an internal political subject of the RF, which will allow ‘preserving an ethnic cultural area of 15,000 square kilometers’.
“The Artsakhi Viking Zori Balayan conceived the idea of sending a letter during the Sargsyan-Putin meeting, at which the Armenian president declared that Russia is a political priority to Armenia,” D. Hakobian said, adding that nevertheless he welcomes the ideas expressed in Zori Balayan’s letter.
