President: Our children should have desire to become scientists

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan participated today in the event dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences.

The event was attended by academicians, representatives of science and education, government members, parliamentary deputies, and clergymen.

In his speech of welcome, the president congratulated those present on the 70th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences. He noted that Armenia’s science has promoted its economic and social development.

“The Academy has formed a considerably army of intellectuals engaged in exact and social sciences and they have reformed the welfare of a whole nation. Our crucial task today is to modernize infrastructure of science. We should not stop implementing reforms in this sphere,” Serzh Sargsyan stated.

He attached special importance to the reforms aimed at solving social problems of scientific workers. The president expressed confidence that scientists should have prestige in society.

“Our children should have a desire to become a scientist,” he said.

According to Serzh Sargsyan, the development of science is impossible without international cooperation, which is an essential condition for making progress.

Addressing those present, the Armenian president said that in the past 70 years they and the older generations have done much work which can be called a scientific feat. He called upon the scientists to continue the glorious activities of the Academy for the good of the country.

Then the Armenian president presented orders of honor and diplomas to over 18 scientists.
