Tsakhkadzor hosts sitting of Council of CIS security agencies heads

The 35th sitting of the Council of the Heads of Security Agencies and Secret Services of CIS member states started in Tsakhkadzor today. The participants discussed issues related to the fight against international terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and smuggling.

The sitting was attended by representatives of the secret services of all member states of the CIS, except Azerbaijan.

Director of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) Lieutenant General Gorik Hakobian made a speech of welcome. He expressed confidence that the bilateral and multilateral meetings to be held within the sitting’s framework will give renewed impetus to the struggle against those phenomena that undermine the political, economic and defense interests of CIS member states.

The head of NSS read out Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s welcoming address to the sitting participants.

Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia Alexander Bortnikov thanked Gorik Hakobian for the warm reception, expressing hope that efficient discussions will be held.

In his words, such meetings enable to find optimal solutions to problems. “The meeting will help strengthen cooperation between security agencies and secret services of CIS member states,” Bortnikov stressed.
