Navasardian: Mass media situation will worsen after entry into CU

Chairman of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardian believes that this year’s elections in Armenia were well covered by the media because there was an instruction. At a meeting with reporters today, he said that he arrived at such a conclusion because immediately after the elections the picture was again the same as before. According to Navasardian, the situation concerning the mass media will worsen after Armenia joins the Customs Union.

“Perhaps not in an active and cruel way, but in some cases, restrictions on freedom of speech will become a serious challenge,” he noted.

Boris Navasardian also expressed concern over the situation on Armenian television. “Public Television Channel has serious problems – the concept has been changed several times there in the past few months. We all remember the statements of the previous management who claimed that their television channel expresses interests of the majority. The respective programs were broadcast to ensure high ratings. The loss of the audience has become a problem now,” Navasardian said.
