Devrikian: Balayan’s letter was a U-turn in Armenian politics

A deep and competent analysis was made in Zori Balayan’s letter, expert in literature Vardan Devrikian told reporters today.

“I should say that some read the Armenian version of the letter. Yet the letter has some linguistic patterns typical of Russian and this circumstance caused a misunderstanding,” Devrikan said, adding

“After reading that letter, I realized that a deep competent analysis was made in it. It was a profound letter written with dignity. It was a U-turn in Armenian politics”.

According to Devrikian, Balayan and his letter are criticized mostly by people who either left Armenia or ‘hid behind the trees’ during the war. “And now they say that Balayan allegedly endangers Artsakh’s security. This is immoral. I think the letter has some political connotation, but it was written without the authorities’ knowledge. Balayan expressed not the viewpoint of the state, but his own opinion, that of an intellectual,” the speaker noted.
