Shops misleading consumers with discounts reprimanded

The RA State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) released today the results of checks conducted in a number of brand name stores. The discount policies of these stores were at the center of the commission’s attention. It was found that in many cases the notices about 50-70% discounts put up on the showcases of stores did not correspond to reality. In other cases, discounts were given only for some goods or 5% of the assortment.

The commission said the stores misled consumers by offering goods at allegedly low prices, whereas in reality discounts were given only for old goods. 12 stores admitted their mistakes and changed their ad posters the following day. They received severe reprimands. The commission chairman Artak Shaboyan said the SCPEC will impose fines if such violations are discovered once again.
