Armenian president attends sitting of Council of Heads of CIS States

As part of his working visit to Belarus, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan today participated in the sitting of the Council of Heads of CIS member states in Minsk, according to the presidential press service.

The leaders of CIS states discussed 14 issues related to various spheres and pertaining to the prospects of promotion of trade and economic links, cooperation of law enforcement agencies, and further development of cultural and humanitarian ties.

Among the issues discussed were the 2014-2016 program of cooperation on the fight against terrorism and other violent forms of extremism and the 2014-2018 program of cooperation on combating drug trafficking and drug addiction. The participants approved the programs.

The presidents discussed and adopted the 2014-2018 interstate joint action program on fight against crime and the 2014-2018 program of CIS member states’ cooperation in combating human trafficking.

The participants approved an agreement on the creation of the Interstate Council for Fight against Corruption and the concept of cooperation of CIS states on the fight against crimes committed by using information technologies.

A decision was made to declare 2014 a Year of Tourism in the CIS and implement ‘The Cultural Capitals of the CIS’ interstate program in 2014.

It was decided to hold the next sitting of the Council of Heads of CIS States in Kiev. Ukraine assumed the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
