Armenian political elite not prepared for entry into any union

The political elite of Armenia are not prepared today for entry into any union because a union means equal partnership and adequate concessions, the chairwoman of Against Legal Arbitrariness NGO Larisa Alaverdian told reporters today.

Commenting on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s statement concerning Armenia’s entry into the Customs Union, Ms. Alaverdian said the response of the Armenian side was not an adequate one and that Lukashenko has nothing to do with Armenia’s integration processes.

She noted that taking advantage of the fact that Azerbaijan will never join the Customs Union, Turkey may try to occupy that niche instead of Azerbaijan.

In her words, not everyone in the Republican Party of Armenia wants estrangement from Europe. Armenia may assume the role of a peacemaker between Russia and Europe, L. Alaverdian said.
