Sociologist: There are 266 thousand unemployed in Armenia

Only 9% of the unemployed people, registered in Armenia since last year, were able to find a job, sociologist Aharon Adibekian told a press conference today.

“About 40% of the unemployed in the country have higher or specialized secondary education. One in six unemployed persons receives money from relatives abroad,” he said.

According to data of the sociologist, there are currently 266 thousand unemployed in Armenia. 60% of women and 20% of men are out of job.

As regards the impact of unemployment on the emigration level, Adibekian noted that most of those emigrating from Armenia are employers as they seek tax privileges to continue their business.
