Wings of Tatev cableway joins OITAF

‘Wings of Tatev’ cableway has joined the International Organization for Transportation by Rope (OITAF). The decision was taken at the meeting of the OITAF Management Committee in the city of Bolzano, Italy.

The membership of the OITAF bears evidence of the cableway’s recognition by the international community of operators of ropeways and gives Wings of Tatev a number of advantages such as assistance with studies and experiments in ropeway management, assistance with the establishment of standards for national regulators of ropeways, and holding of workshops and conferences for ropeway manufacturers and operators.

The OITAF was founded in 1959 in Milan. Ropeways of 22 countries are represented in the OITAF today.

Wings of Tatev opened on October 16, 2010. It was recorded in the Guinness World Records Book on October 23, 2010, as the longest reversible aerial tramway built in one section only.

The cable car travels at a speed of 37 km kilometers per hour and a one-way journey takes 11 minutes. At its highest point over the gorge, the car travels 320 m above ground level.

It has two cabins, each capable of carrying up to 25 passengers.
