Potential of Armenian AF is more than enough to do any combat task

On his Facebook page, the spokesman for Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisian commented on the statement of Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov during the meeting with Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“I learned that at the meeting with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs, the newly appointed defense minister of Azerbaijan demanded an explanation in connection with the interview the commander of the Russian 102nd military base in Gyumri gave to Krasnaya Zvezda paper.

To all appearance, the staff of the Azerbaijani defense minister did not inform him duly about Article 4 of the Collective Security Treaty as well as the protocol No 5 signed in August 2010 to the Agreement on Russian Military Base between Russia and Armenia.

Nevertheless, I would remind him that the military-political leadership of Armenia repeatedly said that as regards countering Azerbaijan’s aggression, they do not consider it necessary to involve the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) or the Russian Federation, and that our Armed Forces have more than enough potential to do any military task. The membership in the CSTO and Armenian-Russian military cooperation are aimed at preventing a possible aggression of a third country”.
