Police: Soldiers registered in Ararat will not vote in election

The Armenian police issued a statement in connection with the media reports that many servicemen registered in Ararat are now granted a furlough and receive their passports so as to vote in the upcoming elections of Ararat city mayor.

“The rumor is misinformation and does not correspond to reality.

Under Article 2 part 4 of the Electoral Code, servicemen who do compulsory military service or participate in a muster may not participate in voting during elections to local self-government bodies.

By the Armenian law, persons conscripted into the military service are removed from the state register of population and are registered at the place of residence after their demobilization,” the statement particularly says.
