Arzumanian: Control Chamber cannot be independent body

The Control Chamber of Armenia cannot be an independent body, no matter how much they claim that. The former Foreign Minister of Armenia, parliamentary deputy Alexander Arzumanian made that statement in the National Assembly today, when discussing the subject of proposed reappointment of Ishkhan Zakarian as chairman of the Control Chamber.

“You say with a serious face that the Control Chamber is an independent body, while we - with a serious face – pretend to believe it, but this is a pretense. Since the time of Komsomol, you have always been a member of the bureaucratic establishment. I don’t doubt that if Shant Harutyunian comes to power, you may become the head of the sub-department of Tseghakron ideology,” Arzumaniаn said, addressing Ishkhan Zakarian.

In the deputy’s words, all state bodies declare that they are independent. Yet, according to Arzumanian, the activities of I. Zakarian resemble the situation when they say that a shift supervisor in a penal institution allegedly controls internal problems there.

“Ishkhan Zakarian is the head of such a large penal institution. He cannot act independently. This means one thing: heads of independent bodies are not appointed,” A. Arzumanian said.
