Shahnazarian: Armenia is forcibly annexed to imperial Russia

The Russian figures visiting Armenia fail to explain why Armenia is joining the Customs Union, the chairman of Accord Center David Shahnazarian said at a meeting with reporters today.

“The Armenian authorities have transferred the mandate of ruling the country to Russia. The Customs Union-related process is a smokescreen. Armenia is being forcibly annexed to the imperial Russia. If the process does not stop, we will face more serious consequences than Georgia after the August war,” he noted.

By joining the Customs Union, the Armenian authorities are trying to retain their power, David Shahnazarian said.

“The current political system of Armenia is unable to protect sovereignty and statehood. This system can only exist as an appendage of Russia. This system is the greatest threat to Armenia’s security,” Shahnazarian said.
