Parliament discusses bill on recognition of Nagorno Karabakh

The Armenian parliament started discussing the draft law on the recognition of the independence of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic by the Republic of Armenia. The draft was initiated by the head of Heritage faction Zaruhi Postanjian.

Ms. Postanjian said a similar draft law was also submitted in 2007, but today, too, Heritage Party considers the issue urgent.

“The recognition of Nagorno Karabakh by Armenia will become an impetus for other states,” she said.

Asked by deputy of Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Gagik Jangirian whether the recognition may result in a war, Z. Postanjian replied, ”Azerbaijan will launch large-scale hostilities when it is ready. Today Azerbaijan is not ready for war. Armenia should use this fact”.
