293 ramps built in Yerevan this year
During the discussion in the Yerevan Municipality today, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Kamo Areyan spoke about the programs implemented in 2013 with the aim of making the city more accessible for people with disabilities. He attached special importance to the construction of ramps in Yerevan streets and newly-repaired parks, stressing that sums were allocated from community budgets for the first time, in particular, for construction of 293 ramps, the press service of the municipality said.
According to Armen Alaverdian, chairman of Unison NGO representing interests of people with special needs, beneficiaries of this year’s programs are satisfied with the results and ready for further cooperation.
The head of the construction and urban development department of the municipality Samvel Mherian made a report saying that it is planned to double work to be done in 2014: the NGOs representing the interests of disabled citizens submitted a list of 197 streets so that discussions could be held and proposals presented in due time. 40 million drams will be allocated from the budget for construction of ramps in all administrative districts of the city.
