Defense minister: Russian base will ensure Armenia’s security

“The Armenian armed forces are an efficient guarantor of the security of the population of Nagorno Karabakh. The armed forces of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh are able not only to counter the adversary’s provocations, but also to launch attacks. As for the 102nd base, I think the Russian base along with our troops will ensure the security of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh,” Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian told reporters during his visit to border military units in the southeastern direction of the republic.

Asked how the balance of forces is kept between Armenia and Azerbaijan, given the fact of Russian arms sale to the Azerbaijani side, the minister replied: “We are taking the respective measures to keep the balance and you will see the results in the near future”.

Commenting on the allocation of additional areas in Erebuni Airport to the Russian base, Seyran Ohanian said that the areas have been allocated for a helicopter squadron.
