Zakarian: Armenia committed to decision to continue cooperation with EU

Armenia intends to continue multilateral and mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union, Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Artak Zakarian said today at the Vilnius meeting of the heads of parliamentary committees on foreign affairs of EU member states.

“The European Union is one of Armenia’s most important partners. Large-scale reforms in the fields of human rights, democracy and the rule of the law form the basis of Armenia-EU cooperation.

Announcing its decision to join the Customs Union, Armenia remains committed to its desire to promote in all possible directions its cooperation with the European Union, based on the joint achievements made in recent years as part of Armenia-EU cooperation,” Artak Zakarian stated.

In his words, the decision taken by the Armenian authorities is a process aimed at ensuring the country’s economic development and its energy and strategic security.

“We will do everything possible in order to find proper ways and acceptable formats of further bilateral and multilateral cooperation and also to create an atmosphere of mutual agreement for the implementation of a multi-vectoral policy,” A. Zakarian said.
