Foreign minister: Underlying principles of talks are single whole

“We hope that Azerbaijan will return to the negotiating table with a constructive approach,” Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OSCE member states.

Let us remind you that a summit of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place in Vienna on November 19 after a nearly two-year pause, with the results considered positive.

The foreign minister, touching upon five joint statements issued by the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair states with the G8 summit framework, stressed that Armenia shares the opinion of the international community that it is possible to achieve regional peace and stability only through peace negotiations.

Nalbandian said the Armenian side shares the position of the Co-chair states that the principles and elements that underlie the negotiating process are a single whole and a selective approach to these principles will make the conflict settlement difficult.
In his words, constructive approaches not only will enable to reconcile the basic principles, but will also contribute to observance of the ceasefire, withdrawal of snipers from the line of contact, and introduction of mechanisms for investigation of border incidents.

E. Nalbandian stressed that Armenia is ready to make efforts for the establishment of lasting peace, stability and security in the region.

A meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Kiev on December 4-6. The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan met on the sidelines of the event.
