25 years after earthquake, 4,500 families homeless

25 years ago, on December 7, 1988, Armenia was hit by a devastating earthquake, which left 25 thousand people dead, 19 thousand injured, and 530 thousand homeless.

Many settlements, villages, cities, plants and industrial buildings were fully or partly destroyed. The economic damage amounted to over 13 billion rubles.

25 years after the earthquake, 4,500 families remain homeless, according to statistical data. They live in temporary structures. Most of them live below the poverty line.

The Armenian government pledged to provide apartments only to 1,200 of the 4,500 families.
