Makeyan: All three Armenian presidents should quit politics

All the three presidents of Armenia should be forced to leave the political arena since they are responsible for the current situation in the country, the chairman of Democratic Homeland Party Petros Makeyan said at a meeting with journalists today.

In his words, the three presidents should be forced to quit politics as they will not do it of their free will. “Even Levon Ter-Petrosian will not quit politics of his free will. All the presidents are afraid. If they were not afraid, they would not conceal, for example, the gas price,” Makeyan noted.

When asked who will force them to quit politics, Makeyan said that first of all it is necessary to distinguish between the pseudo-opposition and the real opposition. “The people should be our partner. We need to recall that in 2008-2011 the opposition presented an agenda to the authorities, but in the spring the opposition weakened and disintegrated after making a number of mistakes”, Makeyan said.

As regards Civil Contract initiative set up by the deputy of HAK parliamentary faction Nikol Pashinian, Petros Makeyan said that he followed a long and difficult path with Pashinian and Mikaelian.

The head of Democratic Homeland stated that since 2008 the political force led by him has always been in the forefront of the struggle.

Speaking about the possibility of joining Civil Contract initiative , Makeyan said: “If our preconditions are accepted, we will cooperate”.
