Markarov: Decision on entry into CU most important event of 2013

The integration processes with Armenia’s participation were of utmost importance in 2013, political scientist Alexander Markarov said at a meeting with reporters today.

“The most important event of 2013 was the Armenian authorities’ statement about entry into the Customs Union, whereby we formalize cooperation with the Customs Union, but at the same time cooperate with the European Union,” Markarov said.

According to him, Armenia’s cooperation with the EU was initially viewed as economic, but later it transformed into political cooperation, which is also possible in case of the Customs Union.

Speaking about possible developments in the Karabakh conflict settlement in 2014, the political scientist said that in the past 20 years the task of the negotiating process has been not to allow a resumption of hostilities, while in 2014 everything should be done to turn the de facto status quo into a de jure one.
