Richard Giragosian: Ter-Petrosian exhausted himself as political figure

The recent statements of Levon Ter-Petrosian make an oppressive impression as they show that as a political figure, he has exhausted himself, the head of Regional Studies Center, political scientist Richard Giragosian said at a meeting with reporters today, when commenting on the recent speech of Levon Ter-Petrosian.

“It is evident from Ter-Petrosian’s latest pro-Russian statements that they differ from the policy that he and the force led by him had carried out,” Giragosian said. In his opinion, the public paid too much attention to the ex-presidents of Armenia.

R. Giragosian stressed the need to have opposition of new quality in Armenia. In particular, when discussing Civil Contract movement initiated by HAK faction deputy Nikol Pashinian, the political scientist noted that although he does not represent any party, he is in favor of establishing new political forces.

“It is a significant event and not an easy challenge, but it is a promising movement, given the diversity of the group’s composition and the style of their movement,” Giragosian said.

In conclusion, he said that Armenia’s authorities and opposition should change and, while advancing, also change their policies.
