U.S. Co-chair on border incident: I regret today’s death
In connection with tensions along the Armenian-Azerbaijani Line of Contact and the Armenian soldier’s death, the U.S. Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Ambassador James Warlick wrote on Twitter:
“Violence and tensions along the Line of Contact undermine efforts to bring about a negotiated settlement. Regret today’s death”.
From 11:50 pm January 19 to 12:15 am January 20 Azerbaijani subversive groups made simultaneous attempts to infiltrate in the northeastern (Jraberd) and southeastern (Korgan) directions of the Line of Contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan.
A skirmish ensued, during which Junior Sergeant Armen Levoni Hovhannisian died from a gunshot wound while performing bravely his military duty on a frontline position.
