77 cases of journalists’ rights violations recorded in Armenia in 2013

77 cases of journalists’ rights violations were recorded in Armenia last year, Chairman of the Committee to Protect Freedom of Speech (CPFS) Ashot Melikain said.

In 2013 CPFC recorded 9 cases of physical violence compared with 4 cases in 2012, 57 cases of pressure on the mass media (37 cases in 2012), and 10 cases of violation of the right to receive and disseminate information (22 cases in 2012).

“In 2013 journalists worked in more unfavorable conditions than in 2012. The number of lawsuits against the mass media also increased last year,” Ashot Melikian said.
