Ohanian: Development of military medical service is priority for army

The development of the military medical service is an important priority for the Armenian Armed Forces, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian told reporters today at a press conference held to summarize the 2013 results.

“Last year and in early 2014 we had deaths of servicemen due to illnesses. The military medical service is responsible for those losses. Yet I should say that the military medical service is making headway,” Ohanian said, noting that conditions in military hospitals have been improved and measures taken to supply military units with medicines.

“We will hold a consultation with the Armenian health minister in a few hours and will try to understand what diseases are the main cause of our losses because the staff of military medical services said that those illnesses were of such a rapid nature that even the most qualified doctors could not treat them,” Ohanian told those present. He underlined the necessity of setting up a single body between the defense and health ministries.
